Sean Ryon is a documentary journalist with ten years experience filming, producing and editing character-driven news documentaries about topics like immigration, criminal justice reform and climate change. As Senior Shooter-Producer for NowThis, he has covered mental health alternatives to incarceration in NYC, extreme drought along the Colorado River and the disproportionate impact of urban heat on communities of color in Phoenix. In addition, his work on NBC News’ “The Weekend Report” for Quibi found him filming stories about breaking news subjects like opioid overdose prevention in Philadelphia, George Floyd’s legacy in his Houston hometown and the first Coronavirus hotspot in New Rochelle, NY.

In addition, Ryon co-directed, produced, filmed and edited the award-winning short documentary Born Into This in 2015. The film follows a professional boxer’s relationship with his father/trainer and was selected to screen at ten national film festivals, including DOC NYC and the 38th Denver International Film Festival. Recently, he served as director of photography and co-producer of the upcoming short documentary Our League, which follows a transgender bowler’s search for community at a historic Cleveland bowling alley. The film is directed by Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Sam Cullman and premieres June 2022 on PBS through ITVS.
